New York and Vermont Iowa Post Biggest Monthly Losses, While Florida and Oklahoma Top Gainers; Texas and Wyoming Have Worst Job Losses from the Pandemic, as Utah and Idaho Add the Most

Construction employment in May remained below the April level in 40 states and the District of Columbia, according to an analysis  by the Associated General Contractors of America of government employment data released today. Association officials said skyrocketing materials prices and excessive delays in receiving key construction supplies were holding back the industry’s recovery.

The U.S. Treasury has released a 114-page “Green Book” detailing the tax proposals included in President Joe Biden’s budget for Fiscal Year 2022, which begins on October 1, 2021.

Earlier today, U.S. Labor Secretary Marty Walsh announced that the long-anticipated federal COVID-19 ETS will NOT apply to construction. This represents a significant change from early reports that the new standard would apply to a broad range of industries, including construction. AGC of America led a broad coalition effort to question the need for the standard, considering the widespread adoption of coronavirus vaccines and the fact the construction industry has been operating, safely, since the start of the pandemic.

What started out as a slow quarter for accounting standards updates (ASUs) ended with a bang with a significant change to goodwill evaluations for certain entities.

The Idaho AGC is proud that one of its members was honored by Construction Equipment magazine with its “Under 40” award. Chase Camberlango with Western Construction was recognized as one of only 17 winners nationwide in this year’s edition of the award that recognizes “the exciting potential within the heavy-equipment industry.”

In this episode of Words With Wayne, CM Company takes us on a tour of the new Owyhee High School wrapping up in Meridian.  This much-needed project has been worked on by many different Idaho AGC members. We'll also touch base with Idaho AGC staff in Las Vegas and Eastern Idaho, and meet the newest addition to the Idaho AGC Board of Directors:  Aaron Johnson with Bateman-Hall. 

Ahead of next year’s statewide election, the Idaho AGC Board of Directors announced at its May 20th meeting that the association has endorsed Brad Little in his race for re-election as Idaho’s Governor.

“Idaho is fortunate to have had Brad Little at its helm during these past two years,” stated Idaho AGC President Jessee Rosin of Boise-based Mountain Companies. “Idaho’s economy, and its construction industry, has continued to thrive despite the pandemic and all the economic troubles associated with it. Governor Little deserves a lot of credit for this success and has earned another term.”
