AUSTIN, Texas - April 19th, 2024. Omega Morgan, a premier provider of specialized transportation, heavy rigging, machinery moving, and other industrial services, was awarded Hauling Job of the Year in the 160,000 - 500,000 lbs category by the Specialized Carriers and Rigging Association (SC&RA). This marks the third Hauling Job of the Year award won by the industrial services provider.
The SC&RA Hauling Job of the Year award is given to recognize outstanding achievements for hauling jobs, with firms judged on shipment—routing, planning, physical elements, safety considerations, and execution.
“We’re very honored to have won the 2024 Hauling Job of the Year,” said Dick Ferchak, Chief Executive Officer of Omega Morgan. “There were many entries from many talented organizations, and we’re thankful to be recognized for what our team has accomplished.”
The winning job involved the shipment of six turbine runners over 1,100 kilometers from Prince Rupert to a remote location near Fort St. John—the heaviest loads to ever traverse British Columbia. Each turbine weighed 380,000 pounds, and the convoy used to transport them was 225 feet long. The challenging project involved custom-engineered solutions to navigate each load’s immense size and weight and to account for the delicate nature of the equipment. Omega Morgan overcame many transportation challenges, including creating a custom barge-to-transport solution, crossing over 110 bridges, navigating a challenging route in treacherous winter conditions, and coordinating numerous agencies and entities for permits, road closures, and safety measures. The project took six years, and approximately ~15,000 man hours to complete.
“This project was a massive undertaking, a massive success, and a complete team effort,” said Erik Zander, Chief Operating Officer at Omega Morgan. “We had so many creative minds on the job—it wouldn’t have happened without each and every person.”
“With so many moving parts, it took all of our resources on the specialized transportation team to make this project come together,” said Kai Ferrar, Omega Morgan’s Director of Engineering. “We not only got the job done, but we did it with zero injuries or incidents. I’m incredibly proud of our team.”
