Safety and Environmental Training
The Idaho AGC is committed to helping make your jobsite a safe, compliant, and more productive place. We currently offer the following training courses for you and your employees:
Supervisory Training Program (STP)
Program and Course Descriptions: Designed specifically to meet the needs of the construction industry, the Supervisory Training Program offers six courses that focus on the knowledge and skills that every supervisor must have to be an effective manager of people, time, equipment, and materials. Upon completion of all six courses, students will receive an industry-recognized STP Certification.
- Leadership & Motivation: The Leadership & Motivation course focuses on the dollars and sense of people and construction, the role of the construction supervisor, helping people perform better, motivation, leading others, getting what you expect, positive feedback, training and orienting crew members, teams and team building, and leadership skills in action.
- Communication: The Communication course focuses on oral and written communication, supervisors as effective communicators, learning to listen, carrying on conversations, persuasion, negotiation, confrontation, communicating with your crew, putting it in writing, meetings that work, electronic communication, and improving communication.
- Planning & Scheduling: The Planning & Scheduling course focuses on planning and scheduling, preparing project plans, communicating the plan, the critical path, scheduling software and applications, using the schedule on the jobsite, updating the construction schedule, and using the schedule as documentation.
- Contract Documents: The Contract Documents course focuses on an introduction to contract documents, contractual relationships, contract forms and documents, managing general conditions, construction field documentation, scope changes, time impacts, and avoiding and resolving disputes.
- Cost Control: The Cost Control course focuses on an introduction to improving productivity and managing costs, construction estimates, planning and scheduling, who controls projects costs, reporting and analyzing actual costs, planning for cost control, cost control strategies, quantifying lost labor productivity, equipment management for productivity improvement, working with project partners, and post project evaluation.

- Risk Management: The Risk Management course focuses on what risk is, human performance risk, reactive problem solving, proactive problem solving, labor costs and subcontractor risk, safety, risk, and crisis management, risk management, and risk specific solutions.
Course Length: Each unit consists of a 2-day training (two, 8-hour training sessions).
Who Should Attend: This course series is recommended for all persons working in supervisory positions within the construction industry, either as an initial preparation for taking on a supervisory position, or to enhance one’s supervisory skills. Army Corp of Engineers--Construction Quality Management (CQM) Certification
Course Description: FIRST time ever offered in Idaho! Under the revised requirements of CEGS-01451, Contractor Quality Control, it is mandatory that this course be successfully completed to be approved as the contractor’s quality control manager. Course certificates are valid for five years from the date of successful completion. The training is formatted in the following eight modules of instruction, and instructed by the Army Corp of Engineers:
- Introduction
- Contractor’s Review
- Quality Management Planning
- Preconstruction Conference and Coordination meeting
- Submittals
- Quality Management During Construction
- Making the System Work
- The Resident Management
Course Length: One day (8 hours).

The Idaho AGC has partnered with local safety training providers, Northwest Safety & Risk Services, to provide the highest quality safety and training courses. Northwest Safety & Risk is committed to developing and maintaining proactive programs and procedures that meet federal, state, and local safety, health, and environmental regulations and laws while creating a positive culture in the classroom, workplace, and community. First Aid/AED/CPR
Course Description: This is an adult CPR, AED, and First Aid training program designed specifically for the occupational first aid provider. This extremely flexible program will help employers meet OSHA and other federal and state regulatory requirements for training employees to respond and care for medical emergencies at work. Upon successful completion of the written exam and practical evaluations, participants receive a certification card to document the training. This certification is valid for two years from the date of the class.
Course Length: 4 hours.
Who Should Attend: This class is required for occupational first aid providers and employees who have confined space rescue duties. This course is also recommended for all other individuals who desire CPR, AED, and first aid knowledge and skills with a focus on adults. Forklift
Course Description: Employees can learn the general requirements for the safe operation of Class 7 Rough Terrain Powered Industrial Trucks (forklifts) and the requirements of the OSHA 1910.178 Standard. The training covers laws and regulations, safe operating practices, hazards, vehicle types, controls, inspections and maintenance, capabilities, stability, fueling, and workplace specific requirements.
Course Length: 1 day (one 4-hour training + evaluation)
Who Should Attend: This training is required for employees that operate Rough Terrain or Variable-Reach Powered Industrial Trucks. This course may be used as an initial training prior to operation and/or a refresher training every three years. Operators must be a minimum of 18 years of age. Fall Protection
Course Description: During this training, you will learn about the nature of common fall hazards in the work area. Training includes an in-depth discussion on the use and operation of guardrail systems, personal fall arrest systems, safety net systems, warning line systems, safety monitoring systems, controlled access zones, and other fall protection to be used. Training covers correct procedures for erecting, maintaining, disassembling, maintenance, storage, and inspection of fall protection systems.
Course Length: 4 hours.
Who Should Attend: This training is required for employees who might be exposed to fall hazards. This course may be used as an initial training and also as refresher training when the employer has reason to believe that any effected employee does not have the understanding or skills required to maximize or ensure safety. Confined Space
Course Description: In this training, employees will be trained in-depth to identify types of confined spaces as well as the specific risks and hazards of confined spaces and emergency procedures so employees can perform duties assigned. It includes training on attendant, entrant, and entry supervisor duties. Employees will be trained on basic atmospheric testing procedures, general ventilation practices, and common entry procedures.
What is a confined space: A confined space has the following characteristics: Its size and shape allow an employee to enter it, it has limited openings for employees to enter and exit, and it is not designed for continuous employee occupancy.
Course Length: 1 day (8 hours).
Who Should Attend: This training is required for employees who enter or work in a confined space. This course may be used as the initial training required and also as refresher training required whenever workplace processes/procedures change. Aerial/Scissor Lift
Course Description: In this course, employees can learn the general requirements for the safe operation of Aerial and Scissor Lifts. Training covers laws and regulations, types and selection, safe operating practices, associated hazards, controls, capabilities, stability, fall protection, inspections and maintenance, fueling, work zones, and manufacturer specific requirements.
Course Length: 1 day (8 hours).
Who Should Attend: This training is required for employees who operate Aerial or Scissor Lifts (also known as Powered Personnel Platforms). Operators must be a minimum of 18 years of age. To view our current course schedule and register, please visit our events page here.
OSHA 10 Hour
Course Description: The OSHA Outreach Training Program for the Construction Industry is intended to provide entry level construction workers information about their rights, employer responsibilities, how to file a complaint, as well as how to identify, abate, avoid, and prevent job-related hazards on a construction site. The training covers a variety of construction safety and health hazards which a worker may encounter at a construction site. It will emphasize hazard identification, avoidance, and control and prevention, not OSHA standards. OSHA has required content for this training with a variety of optional electives. The course is designed to cover an overview of the hazards a worker may encounter and may not meet training requirements in OSHA standards for task-specific training.
Course Length: 2 days (one 8-hour day, one 2-hour day).
Who Should Attend: The 10-hour class is intended and recommended for all entry-level workers who participate in construction work, alteration, and/or repair, including painting and decorating. To view our current course schedule and register, please visit our events page here.
OSHA 30 Hour
Course Description: The OSHA Outreach Training Program for Construction provides training for workers and employers on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of safety and health hazards in workplaces in general industry. The program also provides information regarding workers' rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint. OSHA has required content for this training with a variety of optional electives. The course is designed to cover an overview of the hazards a worker may encounter and may not meet training requirements in OSHA standards for task-specific training.
Course Length: 4 days (four 8-hour days).
Who Should Attend: The 30-hour class is appropriate for all supervisors and management, and recommended for employees with some safety responsibilities in construction work, alteration, and/or repair, including painting and decorating. Water Pollution Control Management (WPCM)
Course Description: This course will cover the Clean Water Act, the 2017 Construction General Permit, and ITD specifications, compliance resources, and ITD policies and procedures. It will also cover management of projects day-to-day for compliance with environmental requirements and ITD policy and how to pass an EPA inspection.
Course Length: 2 days (two 8-hour days).
Certification Period-Use it or Lose it: This course is good for the duration of a permit’s cycle (5 years), unless 2 years lapse without personally performing at least 2 inspections. If your permit has lapsed in use, recertification (a 2 day initial course) is required.
