Stormwater Inspection Alert
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 10 inspectors are in Idaho conducting NPDES Storm Water inspections at commercial and residential construction sites.
Basic Stormwater advice for construction sites in Idaho:
- Complete Construction General Permit (CGP)
- File an NOI with EPA on any job you have in progress
- Check to see if the owner has filed an NOI
- Make sure you have a valid (signed by a company official) Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) on site, along with a Responsible Person (staff person) who has the plan physically on site and is in charge of making sure you are following the plan with the proper BMPs. A copy of the NOI, CGP, and inspection reports should be included in the SWPPP. Your SWPPP should be a “living document” so keep a log of amendments.
- Check with local municipality for specific training requirements
- Plan for final stabilization (70% vegetation or mechanical means)
Quick note: Not having the proper Stormwater signs and permits posted at your job entrance and bad general housekeeping are two of the top reasons for an EPA inspector to make further inquiries concerning your jobsite! Also be sure to have the proper BMPs in place to avoid mud and silt from entering the roadways adjacent to the jobsite.
